WHERE IS AND WHAT IS MANKRONG?
Mankrong is a rural farming village located in Ghana, just a 30-minute walk from our land site.
We are a relatively small farming community with a population of around 1,000 people, including approximately 500 youths.
Our main crops include cassava, corn, and cocoa. However, the average annual income for a dedicated farmer here is around 1,500 euros. To increase their crop yield and income, many farmers have turned to artificial pesticides and fertilizers.
Additionally, many community members have been compelled to establish side businesses, such as meat retail (mostly imported), provision shops (also largely imported), and drink shops, to supplement their income.
The youth of the village often leave the area in search of better monetary opportunities in Accra or nearby towns. They frequently work as motorbike riders, taxi drivers, masons, carpenters, or retailers, earning slightly more than what a dedicated farmer would make.
IN WHICH WAY ARE THESE EARTH'S OFFERINGS MAKING A DIFFERENCE?
Our Earth’s Offerings are a local social and communal enterprise that provides value back to our land, our farming labor, and our economic status. They allow our farming community to regain control over their lands and resources through direct involvement in a fair trade system. By ethically and personally harvesting raw resources from our fertile land, we ensure that these resources are processed into high-quality body, cooking, and medicinal products by our selected team. These products are then made available for purchase by our global customers.
THE AIMS OF THE MOVEMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS:
-To take full control of our lands and raw resources by keeping the harvesting, production, and selling processes internal and centralized within our community. This aims to break the post-colonial cycle of selling raw resources to Western multinationals in exchange for cheap labor.
-To reconnect with our indigenous natural farming practices in order to move away from the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers. This shift is intended to enhance the quality of our products and, most importantly, restore the natural health of our lands.
-To provide our customers with the most elite, raw, and natural products and a truly transparent experience.
HOW ARE WE PROVIDING FULL TRANSPARENCY?
We are committed to transparency in our operations by clearly detailing the distribution of net profit across various stages of our natural farming chain. Here’s how each product's net profit is allocated:
30% FARMER
This percentage goes to those involved in growing and harvesting the raw resources.
40% HAND-PROCESSING
This portion supports those involved in the natural hand-processing that transforms raw resources into final elite products.
20% MANAGEMENT
This share covers the organization and logistics, including selecting goods, purchasing from farmers, supervising food processing, handling deliveries, processing payments for all members, and customer service.
10% COMPANY
This amount is used to cover expenses for equipment, micro-investments, and to generate income for further investments in equipment and organizational development.
Example:
If you purchase 1 kg of Plantain Flour at a total price of €36, the distribution of net profit is as follows:
€10.80 FARMER
€14.40 HAND-PROCESSING
€7.20 MANAGEMENT
€3.60 COMPANY
Please note that international shipping costs are not included in this percentage breakdown. The general cost for shipping 1 kg from Ghana abroad is €40, which will be added at checkout. We are actively working on finding more affordable shipping options.
